# secret

The describe secret command retrieves detailed metadata about a specific Secret in the Kubernetes cluster. This includes the secret type, associated namespace, and creation timestamp. Secret values are not exposed in plain text for security reasons.

## Usage

```
cldkctl describe secret [name] [flags]
```

## Steps

Follow the steps below to run and view the result of this command:

1. Run the following command in your terminal:

```
cldkctl describe secret [name] 
```

2. Replace \[name] with the Secret name you want to inspect.
3. To view the resource name, refer to the corresponding get secret section.
4. xIf the resource is located in a non-default namespace, include the -n or --namespace flag followed by the namespace name.

```
cldkctl describe [resource] [name] -n [namespace]
```

5. Once completed successfully, the detailed information about the specified Secret will appear in your terminal. The output includes metadata, UID, creation timestamp, and encoded data values.

The following table describes the additional fields specific to the Secret resource.

| Column        | Description                                                                           |
| ------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| data          | A map containing key-value pairs of the Secret data, stored in base64-encoded format. |
| data.password | Encoded value representing the stored password or token.                              |
| data.username | Encoded value representing the associated username or identifier.                     |
| type          | The type of Secret, which determines its intended usage.                              |
